People have always enjoyed anything that comes with the word free attached. And as the economy gets tougher folks look for more things for less money. That means that free becomes a more sought after more and more commodity.
Game shows are built around these premises. Win cars, home or cash without having to pay for it. We aspire to be a part of such action. If we can’t, we spend time in front of the television watching other people getting free stuff.
There are several factors though that has made free things available to the masses. First is the fact that free is such a powerful tool for companies. When it comes to marketing the most important word is free. It drives people to see what is on offer. Because of this, companies look to capitalize on the opportunity. If they give a product of their own away for free they attract a lot of people like you and I.
For example, most free offers will require that you the consumer sign up for something in order to get the free item. Now that can be something as simple as a magazine subscription or as major as a Major Credit card or as intensive as an ongoing membership to a DVD or CD record club which requires you to purchase so many things within the next so many days or months in order to finish your trial and get your free offer fulfilled.
Other companies use free stuff to their advantage. For instance the vacation industry. You can take free vacations, get free park attraction tickets or even get paid to vacation. The reason is so that they can give you their 2-4 hour sales pitch. They use this tactic every day. Why? Because It works for them.
So when it comes to free stuff the fact of the matter is everyone is a winner. As the consumer we end up with something that we didn’t have to pay for. Companies benefit because by giving something away for free they end up benefiting their bottom line.
